About me
Hi, welcome to my webpage. My name is Frank, I am postdoctoral researcher in evolutionary robotics
that investigates principles of evolution in artificial systems.
I am interested in how life arose, and how this knowledge can be used as a tool to
create artificial life.
I try to speculate about how natural processes influenced organisms
to evolve into the amazingly complex beings we see today.
For my research I focus on how control systems, morphogenesis and evolutionary computation can be combined to give rise to interesting virtual creatures and even robots. Can we learn any essential evolutionary principles or developmental strategies from these models? Could these models ultimately inform us on how to design artificial systems? To find out more about my work, see my research projects, publications and background education.
Apart from research, I am a game design enthusiast and I love procedural game design, physics-based simulations, programming shaders, 3D-modeling, animations, making board games, and designing music for games. I also enjoy understanding scientific methods through simulating and illustrating them in the Unity game engine. Have a look at my game development portfolio which also contains a few examples of my educational illustratsions.
